The Subcommittee on Veterans Affairs of the Standing Senate Committee on National Security and Defence met this day at 12:05 p.m., in room 257, East Block, the chair, the Honourable Tommy Banks, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Banks, Meighen, Pépin, Plett and Wallin (5).

Other senators present: The Honourable Senators Dallaire, Day and Nolin (3).

In attendance: James S. Cox, Analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament; and Tracie LeBlanc, Communications Officer, Communications Directorate.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, March 30, 2010, and delegated on Monday, April 12, 2010 by the Standing Senate Committee on National Security and Defence, the subcommittee continued its study on the services and benefits provided to members of the Canadian Forces; to veterans; to members and former members of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and their families (Implementation of the new veterans charter). WITNESSES:

Nathalie Pham, Manager, Client Service Team, Montreal District Office;

Katherine Richards-Solc, Manager, Client Service Team, Kingston District Office.

As an individual:

Dr. Don Richardson, Consultant Psychiatrist, Ste. Anne's Hospital (by video conference).

Nathalie Pham, Katherine Richards-Solc and Dr. Don Richardson each made a statement and, together, answered questions.

At 1:20 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
