The Standing Senate Committee on National Finance met this day, at 9:30 a.m., in room 9, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Joseph A. Day, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Callbeck, Cordy, Day, Dickson, Eggleton, P.C., Gerstein, Marshall, Murray, P.C., Nancy Ruth, Neufeld, Runciman and Wallace (12).

In attendance: John Bulmer and Alex Smith, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, June 9, 2011, the committee continued its examination of the expenditures set out in the Supplementary Estimates (A) for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2012. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 1.)

WITNESSES:

Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation:

Karen Kinsley, President;

Marc Joyal, Vice-President and Chief Financial Officer;

Sharon Matthews, Vice-President, Assisted Housing.

Natural Resources Canada:

Mark Corey, Assistant Deputy Minister, Energy Sector;

Brian Gray, Assistant Deputy Minister, Earth Science Sector;

Dave McCauley, Director, Uranium and Radioactive Waste Division;

Martin Bergmann, Director, Polar Continental Shelf Program;

Doug Metcalfe, Senior Manager, Nuclear Legacy Liabilities.

Ms. Kinsley made a statement and, together with Mr. Joyal and Ms. Matthews, answered questions.

At 10:35 a.m., the committee suspended.

At 10:38 a.m., the committee resumed.

Mr. Corey and Mr. Gray each made a statement and, with Messrs. McCauley, Bergmann and Metcalfe, answered questions.

At 11:34 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
