The Standing Senate Committee on National Finance met in camera this day, at 6:45 p.m., in room 9, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Joseph A. Day, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Bellemare, Callbeck, Day, Gerstein, Maltais, McInnis, Nancy Ruth, Peterson, Ringuette, Rivard and Smith (Saurel) (11).
Other senator present: The Honourable Senator Hervieux-Payette, P.C. (1).
In attendance: Terrence Thomas, Édison Roy-César, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.
Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, October 6, 2011, the committee continued its study on the potential reasons for price discrepancies in respect of certain goods between Canada and the United States, given the value of the Canadian dollar and the effect of cross border shopping on the Canadian economy. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 5.)
Pursuant to rule 12-16(1)(d), the committee considered a draft report.
It was agreed that senators' staff be allowed to stay in the room, with the condition that no blackberries be used.
It was agreed that the committee allow the transcription of today's in camera meeting, that one copy be kept in the office of the clerk of the committee for consultation by committee members present and the committee analysts, and that the transcript be destroyed by the clerk when authorized to do so by the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure but not later than at the end of this parliamentary session.
At 8:37 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
