The Standing Senate Committee on Social Affairs, Science and Technology met this day at 4:14 p.m., in room 2, Victoria Building, the the chair, Honourable Kelvin K. Ogilvie, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Campbell, Cordy, Eggleton, P.C., Housakos, Hubley, Martin, Ogilvie, Seidman, Seth, Verner, P.C., and Wallace (11).

In attendance: Sonya Norris, Analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, November 17, 2011, the committee continued its study on prescription pharmaceuticals in Canada. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 12.)

WITNESSES:

As individuals:

Dr. Joel Lexchin, Professor, School of Health Policy and Management, York University;

Dr. Miriam Shuchman, Chair, Research Ethics Board, Women's College Hospital.

The chair made a statement.

Dr. Shuchman and Dr. Lexchin each made a statement and, together, answered questions.

At 6:09 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
