The Standing Senate Committee on Banking, Trade and Commerce met this day at 10:30 a.m., in room 9, Victoria Building.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Bellemare, Black, Campbell, Greene, Maltais, Ringuette, Tannas and Tkachuk (8).
In attendance: Adriane Yong and Brett Stuckey, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.
Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.
The clerk informed the committee of the unavoidable absences of the chair and deputy chair and presided over the election of an acting chair.
The Honourable Senator Black moved:
That the Honourable Senator Tkachuk be the acting chair.
The question being put on the motion, it was adopted.
The acting chair took the chair.
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, September 30, 2014, the committee began its examination of Bill S-1001, An Act to amend the Eastern Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada Act.
WITNESS:
Eastern Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada:
John J. Kendall, Solicitor.
The chair made an opening statement.
Mr. Kendall made a statement and answered questions.
It was agreed:
That the committee proceed to clause-by-clause consideration of Bill S-1001, An Act to amend the Eastern Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada Act.
It was agreed that the title stand postponed.
It was agreed that the preamble stand postponed.
It was agreed that clause 1 carry.
It was agreed that the preamble carry.
It was agreed that the title carry.
It was agreed that the bill carry.
It was agreed that Bill S-1001, An Act to amend the Eastern Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada Act, be reported to the Senate at the earliest opportunity.
At 10:37 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
