The Standing Senate Committee on National Finance met this day at 9:31 a.m., in room 2, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Joseph A. Day, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Bellemare, Buth, Callbeck, Chaput, Day, Gerstein, Hervieux-Payette, P.C., Mockler and Seth (9).

In attendance: Sylvain Fleury and Raphaëlle Deraspe, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, November 5, 2013, the committee began its examination of the subject-matter of Bill C-4, A second Act to implement certain provisions of the budget tabled in Parliament on March 21, 2013 and other measures.

WITNESSES:

Department of Finance Canada:

Ted Cook, Senior Legislative Chief;

Geoff Trueman, General Director (Analysis), Tax Policy Branch;

Sean Keenan, Director, Sales Tax Division.

Mr. Cook made a statement and, together with Mr. Trueman and Mr. Keenan, answered questions.

At 11:30 a.m., it was agreed that the committee adjourn to the call of the chair.
