The Standing Senate Committee on National Finance met this day, at 9:32 a.m., in room 9, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Joseph A. Day, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Bellemare, Buth, Callbeck, Day, Eaton, Gerstein, Hervieux-Payette, P.C., Mockler and Smith (Saurel) (9).

Other senator present: The Honourable Senator Eggleton, P.C. (1).

In attendance: Sylvain Fleury and Raphaëlle Deraspe, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, March 6, 2014, the committee began its examination of the Bill C-462, An Act restricting the fees charged by promoters of the disability tax credit and making consequential amendments to the Tax Court of Canada Act.

WITNESSES:

Cheryl Gallant, M.P., Renfrew—Nipissing—Pembroke, sponsor of the bill.

Canadian Psychological Association:

Dr. Karen R. Cohen, Chief Executive Officer.

National Benefit Authority:

Akiva Medjuck, President.

The Disability Benefit Group:

Dr. Paul Okorofsky, Director of Client Care and Partner.

TaxWise Inc.:

Shawn Anthony, Senior Manager.

Disabled Women's Network of Canada:

Carmela Hutchison, President and Member at Large on the Executive Committee of the Council of Canadians with Disabilities (by video conference).

Ms. Gallant made a statement and answered questions.

At 10:09 a.m., the committee suspended.

At 10:11 a.m., the committee resumed.

Dr. Cohen, Mr. Medjuck, Dr. Okorofsky, Mr. Anthony and Ms. Hutchison, each made a statement and answered questions.

At 11:42 a.m., it was agreed that the committee adjourn to the call of the chair.
