The Subcommittee on Veterans Affairs of the Standing Senate Committee on National Security and Defence met this day at 12 p.m., in room 257, East Block, the chair, the Honourable Joseph A. Day, presiding.

Members of the subcommittee present: The Honourable Senators Beyak, Day, Lang, Mitchell and White (5).

In attendance: Martin Auger and Isabelle Lafontaine-Émond, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.

Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, April 9, 2014, and delegated on Monday, April 28, 2014 by the Standing Senate Committee on National Security and Defence, the subcommittee continued its consideration of the medical, social, and operational impacts of mental health issues affecting serving and retired members of the Canadian Armed Forces, including operational stress injuries (OSIs) such as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). WITNESSES:

Royal Canadian Mounted Police:

Daniel Dubeau, Deputy Commissioner, Chief Human Resources Officer;

Gilles Moreau, Assistant Commissioner, Assistant Chief HR Officer and Director General, Workforce Programs & Services;

Sylvie Châteauvert, Director General, Occupational Health and Safety Branch.

RCMP Staff Relations Representative Program:

Staff Sergeant Abe Townsend, National Executive;

Sergeant Brian Sauvé, Staff Relations Representative (SRR) and Chair of the National SRR Health Committee.

The chair made an opening statement.

Mr. Dubeau, Staff Sergeant Townsend and Sergeant Sauvé each made a statement and, together with Mr. Moreau and Ms. Châteauvert, answered questions.

At 1:16 p.m., the subcommittee adjourned to the call of the chair.
