The Standing Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade met this day at 4:15 p.m., in room 160- S, Centre Block, the chair, the Honourable Raynell Andreychuk, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Andreychuk, Beyak, Cordy, Dawson, Downe, Housakos, Johnson, Ngo and Rivard (9).

In attendance: Natalie Mychajlyszyn and Pascal Tremblay, analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, January 27, 2016, the committee continued its study on foreign relations and international trade generally. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 1.) (Topic: The situation of Crimean Tatars in Ukraine)

WITNESSES:

Mustafa Dzhemilev, Member of Parliament, Parliament of Ukraine and Commissioner of the President of Ukraine for the Affairs of the Crimean Tatars.

Embassy of Ukraine:

His Excellency Andrii Shevchenko, Ambassador.

The chair made a statement.

Mr. Dzhemilev and His Excellency Andrii Shevchenko each made a statement and answered questions.

At 5 p.m., the committee suspended.

At 5:06 p.m., the committee resumed.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, March 22, 2016, the committee continued its study on recent political and economic developments in Argentina in the context of their potential impact on regional and global dynamics, including on Canadian policy and interests, and other related matters. WITNESS:

Jean Daudelin, Associate Professor and Associate Director, The Norman Paterson School of International Affairs, Carleton University.

Mr. Daudelin made a statement and answered questions.
