The Standing Senate Committee on Agriculture and Forestry met this day at 8 a.m., in room 2, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Diane F. Griffin, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Ataullahjan, Black (Ontario), Dagenais, Doyle, Gagné, Griffin, Maltais, Mercer, Oh and Woo (10).

In attendance: Aïcha Coulibaly and Corentin Bialais, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament.

Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, February 15, 2018, the committee continued its study on how the value-added food sector can be more competitive in global markets. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 47.)

WITNESSES:

Keith Kuhl, President and CEO.

Canadian Produce Marketing Association:

Jane Proctor, Vice President, Policy and Issues Management.

Sunterra Farms Ltd.:

Ray Price, President.

Canada Organic Trade Association:

Tia Loftsgard, Executive Director.

The chair made a statement.

Mr. Kuhl and Ms. Proctor made statements and answered questions.

At 9:01 a.m., the committee suspended.

At 9:05 a.m., the committee resumed.

Mr. Price and Ms. Loftsgard made statements and answered questions.

At 9:56 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
