Pursuant to the order of the Senate of March 30, 2021, the Standing Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade met this day by videoconference at 11:30 a.m. [ET], the deputy chair, the Honourable Peter Harder, P.C., presiding. This meeting is considered to have taken place in the parliamentary precinct.

Members of the committee present by videoconference: The Honourable Senators Boniface, Coyle, Deacon (Ontario), Greene, Harder, P.C., Housakos, Ngo, Omidvar and Ravalia (9).

Participating in the meeting: Mark Palmer, Procedural Clerk, and Sébastien Payet, Legislative Clerk, Committees Directorate; Brian Hermon, Analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament.

Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, March 30, 2021, the committee continued its study of matters relating to foreign or Commonwealth relations generally, as described in rule 12-7(4). Topic: Canada’s international response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Honourable Bob Rae, P.C., Ambassador and Permanent Representative-Designate of Canada to the United Nations in New York;

Joshua Tabah, Director General, Health and Nutrition, Global Issues and Development Branch;

Nadine Grant, Vice-President, International Programs and Business Development.

The chair made a statement.
