The Standing Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade met this day at 4:17 p.m., in room C128, Senate of Canada Building, the chair, the Honourable Peter M. Boehm, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Al Zaibak, Boehm, Coyle, Deacon (Ontario), Gerba, Greenwood, Harder, P.C., MacDonald, Ravalia, Robinson and Woo (11).

Other senators present: The Honourable Senators Adler and Cardozo (2).

Participating in the meeting: Brian Hermon and Zachariah Black, analysts, Library of Parliament.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, October 26, 2023, the committee continued its study on Canada’s interests and engagement in Africa.

WITNESSES:

His Excellency Ngole Philip Ngwese, High Commissioner, High Commission of Cameroon in Canada;

His Excellency Prosper Higiro, High Commissioner, High Commission of Rwanda in Canada;

Her Excellency Souriya Otmani, Ambassador, Embassy of the Kingdom of Morocco in Canada;

His Excellency Rieaz Moe Shaik, High Commissioner, High Commission of South Africa in Canada.

Their Excellencies Ngole Philip Ngwese, Prosper Higiro, Souriya Otmani and Rieaz Moe Shaik each made a statement and answered questions.

At 5:46 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
