The Standing Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade met this day at 11:30 a.m., in room C128, Senate of Canada Building, the chair, the Honourable Peter M. Boehm, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Boehm, Boniface, Coyle, Gerba, Harder, P.C., Housakos, MacDonald, Ravalia, Richards and Woo (10).

Participating in the meeting: Nadia Faucher and Brian Hermon, analysts, Library of Parliament.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, February 24, 2022, the committee continued its study of the Canadian foreign service and elements of the foreign policy machinery within Global Affairs Canada.

Newton Shortliffe, Acting Deputy Director, Operations.

Royal Canadian Mounted Police:

Liam Price, Director General, International Special Services.

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada:

Pemi Gill, Director General, International Network;

Karim Virani, Director General, Integrated Planning and Coordination.

Newton Shortliffe and Liam Price each made a statement and answered questions.

Pemi Gill made a statement and, together with Karim Virani, answered questions.

At 1:19 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
