The Standing Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade met this day at 4:15 p.m., in room C128, Senate of Canada Building, the chair, the Honourable Peter M. Boehm, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Boehm, Boniface, Coyle, Deacon (Ontario), Gerba, Greene, Harder, P.C., MacDonald, Plett, Ravalia, Richards and Woo (12).

Other senators present: The Honourable Senator Omidvar (1).

Participating in the meeting: Nadia Faucher and Zachariah Black, analysts, Library of Parliament.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, February 10, 2022, the committee continued its study on foreign relations and international trade generally. (Subject: Humanitarian Situation in Gaza)

Global Affairs Canada:

Christopher MacLennan, Deputy Minister of International Development;

Ann Flanagan Whalen, Director General, North Africa, Israel, West Bank/Gaza;

Tara Carney, Director, International Humanitarian Assistance.

World Food Programme:

Carl Skau, Deputy Executive Director and Chief Operating Officer (by videoconference).

Christopher MacLennan made a statement and, together with Ann Flanagan Whalen and Tara Carney, answered questions.

At 5:14 p.m., the committee suspended.

At 5:21 p.m., the committee resumed.

Carl Skau made a statement and answered questions.

At 6:06 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
