The Standing Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade met this day at 4:15 p.m., in room C128, Senate of Canada Building, the chair, the Honourable Peter M. Boehm, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Al Zaibak, Boehm, Boniface, Coyle, Deacon (Ontario), Gerba, Housakos, MacDonald, Ravalia, Robinson and Woo (11).

Participating in the meeting: Brian Hermon and Zachariah Black, analysts, Library of Parliament.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, February 10, 2022, the committee continued its study on foreign relations and international trade generally. (Topic: Humanitarian Situation in Gaza)

Alexandre Lévêque, Assistant Deputy Minister, Europe, Middle East and Arctic;

Robert Brookfield, Director General, Strategic Export Controls Bureau, International Security and Political Affairs Branch.

Lucia Elmi, Dalia Al-Awqati, Patrick Robitaille and Rania Dagash-Kamara each made a statement and answered questions.

At 5:19 p.m., the committee suspended.

At 5:24 p.m., the committee resumed.

Alexandre Lévêque made a statement and, together with Robert Brookfield, answered questions.

At 6:15 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
