The Standing Senate Committee on Indigenous Peoples met this day at 9 a.m., in room C128, Senate of Canada Building, the chair, the Honourable Brian Francis, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Arnot, Audette, Coyle, Francis, Greenwood, Hartling, LaBoucane-Benson, Sorensen and Tannas (9).

Participating in the meeting: Brittany Collier, Analyst, Library of Parliament.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, March 3, 2022, the committee continued its examination of the federal government’s constitutional, treaty, political and legal responsibilities to First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples and any other subject concerning Indigenous Peoples. WITNESSES:

Office of the Independent Special Interlocutor for Missing Children and Unmarked Graves and Burial Sites associated with Indian Residential Schools:

Kimberly Murray, Independent Special Interlocutor;

Wendelyn Johnson, Executive Director;

Donald Worme, Senior Partner.

National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation:

Stephanie Scott, Executive Director;

Barbara Cameron, Survivor of Residential School.

Kimberly Murray made a statement and, together with Donald Worme, answered questions.

At 10 a.m., the committee suspended.

At 10:06 a.m., the committee resumed.

Stephanie Scott and Barbara Cameron made a statement together and answered questions.

At 10:55 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
