The Standing Senate Committee on Indigenous Peoples met this day at 6:45 p.m., in room C128, Senate of Canada Building, the chair, the Honourable Brian Francis, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Arnot, Coyle, Francis, Greenwood, Hartling, Prosper, Sorensen and Tannas (8).

Participating in the meeting: Sara Fryer and Antoine Csuzdi-Vallée, analysts, Library of Parliament.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, May 9, 2024, the committee began its consideration of the subject matter of those elements contained in Divisions 25 and 26 of Part 4 of Bill C-69, An Act to implement certain provisions of the budget tabled in Parliament on April 16, 2024.

WITNESSES:

First Nations Major Projects Coalition:

Sharleen Gale, Chief and Chair of the Board of Directors;

Shaun Fantauzzo, Vice-President, Policy.

Department of Finance Canada:

Anne David, Senior Director, Asset Management, Crown Investment and Asset Management.

Natural Resources Canada:

Mary McKay, Director General, Regulatory Coordination, Consultation and Economic Inclusion, Nòkwewashk.

Chief Sharleen Gale made a statement and, together with Shaun Fantauzzo, answered questions.

At 7:31 p.m., the committee suspended.

At 7:36 p.m., the committee resumed.

Anne David made a statement and, together with Mary McKay, answered questions.

At 8:08 p.m., the committee suspended.

At 8:11 p.m., pursuant to rule 12-16(1)(d), the committee resumed in camera to discuss a draft report.

It was agreed that the committee allow the audio recording of the in camera portion of today's meeting, that a copy be kept with the clerk of the committee for consultation by committee members or staff, and that the audio recording be destroyed by the clerk when authorized to do so by the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure, but no later than at the end of this parliamentary session.

At 8:15 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
