The Standing Senate Committee on Energy, the Environment and Natural Resources met this day at 9 a.m., in room B30, Senate of Canada Building, the deputy chair, the Honourable Josée Verner, P.C., presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Anderson, Batters, Klyne, McCallum, Miville-Dechêne, Sorensen and Verner, P.C. (7).

Participating in the meeting: Ericka Dupont, Procedural Clerk, Committees Directorate and Sam Banks, Analyst, Library of Parliament.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, February 24, 2022, the committee continued its study on emerging issues related to the committee’s mandate. (Topic: Climate Change: Canadian Oil & Gas Industry)

Jean-Denis Charlebois, Chief Economist (by videoconference);

Genevieve Carr, Chief Environmental Officer (by videoconference).

Canadian Climate Institute:

Dave Sawyer, Principal Economist.

Canadian Chamber of Commerce:

David Billedeau, Senior Director Natural Resources, Environment, and Sustainability (by videoconference).

Pathways Alliance:

Mark Cameron, Vice-President, External Relations.

Jean-Denis Charlebois and Dave Sawyer each made a statement and, together with Genevieve Carr, answered questions.

At 9:59 a.m., the committee suspended.

At 10:03 a.m., the committee resumed.

David Billedeau and Mark Cameron each made a statement and answered questions.

At 10:54 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the deputy chair.
