The Standing Senate Committee on National Finance met this day at 9:02 a.m., in room W110, 1 Wellington St., the deputy chair, the Honourable Éric Forest, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Boehm, Bovey, Dagenais, Forest, Galvez, Gignac, Pate and Smith (8).

Other senators present: The Honourable Senators Cardozo and Duncan (2).

Participating in the meeting: Tracy Amendola, Administrative Assistant, Committees Directorate; Shaowei Pu and Sylvain Fleury, analysts, Library of Parliament.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, March 29, 2022, the committee continued its examination of matters relating to federal estimates generally and other financial matters.

WITNESSES:

Office of the Parliamentary Budget Officer:

Yves Giroux, Parliamentary Budget Officer;

Jason Jacques, Director General, Costing and Budgetary Analysis and Chief Financial Officer.

Yves Giroux made a statement and, together with Jason Jacques, answered questions.

At 10:31 a.m., the committee suspended.

At 10:35 a.m., pursuant to rule 12-16(1)(d), the committee resumed in camera to discuss a draft agenda (future business).

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, March 3, 2022, the committee continued its examination of expenditures set out in the Main Estimates for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2023.

It was agreed that each committee member be allowed to have one staff member remain present during the in camera portion of the meeting.

At 10:53 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
