The Standing Senate Committee on Official Languages met in camera this day at 5:02 p.m., in room B30, Senate of Canada Building, the chair, the Honourable René Cormier, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Clement, Cormier, Gagné, Loffreda, Mockler and Moncion (6).

Participating in the meeting: Marie-Ève Hudon, Analyst, Library of Parliament.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, May 31, 2022, the committee continued its examination of the subject matter of Bill C-13, An Act to amend the Official Languages Act, to enact the Use of French in Federally Regulated Private Businesses Act and to make related amendments to other Acts.

It was agreed that senators’ staff be permitted to remain in the room during the in camera meeting.

Pursuant to rule 12-16(1)(d), the committee discussed in camera a draft report.

It was agreed that the draft report, as amended, be adopted, and that the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure be empowered to approve the final version of the report, taking into consideration this meeting’s discussions, and with any necessary editorial, grammatical and translation changes required and that it be empowered to publish the report with the support of the Communications Directorate.

It was agreed that the chair be authorized to table the report in the Senate, at the earliest opportunity.

At 6:27 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
