The Standing Senate Committee on Fisheries and Oceans met this day at 9 a.m., in room B30, Senate of Canada Building, the chair, the Honourable Fabian Manning, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Ataullahjan, Busson, Cordy, Cormier, Francis, Kutcher, Manning, McPhedran, Quinn, Ravalia and Ringuette (11).

Participating in the meeting: Martine Willox, Legislative Clerk and Elda Donnelly, Administrative Assistant, Committees Directorate; Daniele Lafrance, Analyst, Library of Parliament.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, February 10, 2022, the committee continued its study of the federal government's current and evolving policy framework for managing Canada’s fisheries and oceans including maritime safety.

The minister made a statement and, together with Timothy Sargent, Mario Pelletier, Arran McPherson and Niall O’Dea, answered questions.

At 9:58 a.m., the committee suspended.

At 10:05 a.m., the committee resumed.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, April 28, 2022, the committee began its consideration of the subject matter of those elements contained in Part 7 of Bill S-6, An Act respecting regulatory modernization.

At 10:27 a.m., the committee suspended.

At 10:28 a.m., pursuant to rule 12-16(1)(d), the committee resumed in camera to discuss a draft report.

At 10:51 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
