Pursuant to the order of the Senate of May 5, 2022, the Standing Senate Committee on Fisheries and Oceans met in camera this day in room B30, Senate of Canada Building, and with videoconference, at 9:02 a.m. ET, the chair, the Honourable Fabian Manning, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Ataullahjan, Busson, Christmas, Cordy, Cormier, Francis, Kutcher, Manning and Quinn (9).

Members of the committee present by videoconference: The Honourable Senators McPhedran and Ringuette (2).

Participating in the meeting: Vincent Labrosse, Procedural Clerk, Sara Gajic, Legislative Clerk and Elda Donnelly, Administrative Assistant, Committees Directorate; Daniele Lafrance, Analyst, Library of Parliament.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, April 28, 2022, the committee began its examination of the subject matter of those elements contained in Part 7 of Bill S-6, An Act respecting regulatory modernization.

Pursuant to rule 12-16(1)(d), the committee considered a draft report in camera.

It was agreed that the recording and transcription of this in camera meeting be permitted, that one copy of the transcript be kept with the clerk for consultation purposes, and that the copy be destroyed at the end of the current parliamentary session.

It was agreed that the report on the subject matter of those elements contained in Part 7 of Bill S-6, An Act respecting regulatory modernization, be adopted; and

That the chair be authorized to table the report in the Senate at the earliest opportunity.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, February 10, 2022, the committee continued its study on the implementation of Indigenous rights-based fisheries across Canada.

Pursuant to rule 12-16(1)(d), the committee considered a draft report in camera.

At 10:58 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
