The Standing Senate Committee on Fisheries and Oceans met this day at 9:02 a.m., in room W120, 1 Wellington Street, the chair, the Honourable Fabian Manning, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Ataullahjan, Busson, Cordy, Francis, Kutcher, Manning, McPhedran, Quinn and Ravalia (9).

Participating in the meeting: Annie Trudel, Administrative Assistant, Committees Directorate; Daniele Lafrance, Analyst, Library of Parliament.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, October 4, 2022, the committee continued its examination of Canada’s seal populations and seal harvest.

WITNESSES (by videoconference):

Canadian Northern Economic Development Agency:

Margaret Buist, Vice-President, Policy, Planning, Communications and Northern Projects Management Office.

Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency:

Karen Skinner, Vice-President, Newfoundland and Labrador Region;

David Boland, Director General, Regional Operations, Newfoundland and Labrador;

Rob Mallay, Acting Director, Enterprise Development.

Margaret Buist and Karen Skinner each made a statement and, together with David Boland, answered questions.

At 10:07 a.m., the committee suspended.

At 10:13 a.m., the committee resumed.

At 10:37 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
