The Standing Senate Committee on Fisheries and Oceans met this day at 9 a.m., in room W120, 1 Wellington Street, the chair, the Honourable Fabian Manning, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Ataullahjan, Busson, Cordy, Kutcher, Manning and Ravalia (6).

Participating in the meeting: Daniele Lafrance, Analyst, Library of Parliament.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, October 4, 2022, the committee continued its examination of Canada’s seal populations and seal harvest.

Sara Iverson, Professor, Department of Biology, Dalhousie University and Scientific Director, Ocean Tracking Network;

David Rosen, Assistant Professor, Institute for the Oceans and Fisheries, University of British Columbia;

Carl Walters, Professor Emeritus, Institute for the Oceans and Fisheries, University of British Columbia.

Carl Walters, Sara Iverson and David Rosen each made a statement and answered questions.
