The Standing Senate Committee on Fisheries and Oceans met this day at 9:08 a.m., in room W110, 1 Wellington St., the chair, the Honourable Fabian Manning, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Ataullahjan, Cordy, Deacon (Ontario), Francis, Kutcher, Manning, McPhedran, Patterson (Ontario) and Ravalia (9).

Participating in the meeting: Daniele Lafrance and Sarah Yakabowski, analysts, Library of Parliament.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Friday, February 24, 2023, the committee began its examination of the government response to the fourth report of the Standing Senate Committee on Fisheries and Oceans, entitled Peace on the Water: Advancing the Full Implementation of Mi'kmaq, Wolastoqiyik and Peskotomuhkati Rights-Based Fisheries, tabled with the Clerk of the Senate on July 12, 2022.

WITNESSES:

Wolastoqey Nation of New Brunswick:

Ken Paul, Fisheries Negotiator and Research Coordinator.

Abegweit First Nation:

Junior Gould, Chief.

Ken Paul and Chief Junior Gould each made a statement and answered questions.

At 10:58 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
