The Standing Senate Committee on Fisheries and Oceans met in camera this day at 9:03 a.m., in room W110, 1 Wellington St.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Cuzner, Deacon (Nova Scotia), Kutcher, Petten and Ravalia (5).
Other senators present: The Honourable Senator Aucoin (1).
Participating in the meeting: Ben Silverman, Communications Officer, Communications, Broadcasting and Publications Directorate; Daniele Lafrance, Analyst, Library of Parliament.
The clerk informed the committee of the unavoidable absences of the chair and deputy chair and presided over the election of an acting chair.
The Honourable Senator Cuzner moved that the Honourable Senator Deacon be the acting chair.
The question being put on the motion, it was adopted.
The acting chair took the chair.
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, October 4, 2022, the committee continued its examination of Canada’s seal populations and seal harvest.
Pursuant to rule 12-16(1)(d), the committee discussed in camera a draft report.
It was agreed that the committee allow the audio recording of the in camera meeting today, that one copy be kept with the clerk for consultation by committee members and/or staff, and that the audio recording be destroyed by the clerk when authorized to do so by the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure, but no later than at the end of this parliamentary session.
It was agreed that the draft report, as amended, be adopted, and that the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure be empowered to approve the final version of the report, taking into consideration this meeting’s discussions, and with any necessary editorial, grammatical and translation changes required.
At 10:08 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
