The Standing Senate Committee on Fisheries and Oceans met this day at 9:04 a.m., in room W110, 1 Wellington St., the chair, the Honourable Fabian Manning, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Busson, Cordy, Cuzner, Deacon (Nova Scotia), Kutcher, Manning, McPhedran, Petten and Ravalia (9).
Participating in the meeting: Ben Silverman, Communications Officer, Communications, Broadcasting and Publications Directorate; Daniele Lafrance, Analyst, Library of Parliament.
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, February 10, 2022, the committee continued its examination of the federal government's current and evolving policy framework for managing Canada’s fisheries and oceans including maritime safety.

Helen Forsey and Barry Darby made a statement together and answered questions.
At 10:05 a.m., the committee suspended.
At 10:11 a.m., pursuant to rule 12-16(1)(d), the committee resumed in camera to discuss a draft agenda (future business).
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, October 4, 2022, the committee continued its examination of Canada’s seal populations and seal harvest.
It was agreed that the committee allow the audio recording of the in camera portion of today’s meeting, that one copy be kept with the clerk for consultation by committee members and/or staff, and that the audio recording be destroyed by the clerk when authorized to do so by the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure, but no later than at the end of the parliamentary session.
It was agreed that the chair be authorized to table the report in the Senate, at the earliest opportunity, and to request a complete and detailed response from the government.
It was agreed that, 24 hours prior to the release of the report, the report be provided to targeted reporters and/or interested parties under embargo.
At 10:28 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
