The Standing Senate Committee on Fisheries and Oceans met this day at 9:02 a.m., in room W110, 1 Wellington St., the chair, the Honourable Fabian Manning, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Busson, Cuzner, Dagenais, Francis, Greenwood, Kutcher, Manning, McPhedran, Petten and Ross (10).

Participating in the meeting: Daniele Lafrance and Kelsey Brennan, analysts, Library of Parliament.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, September 24, 2024, the committee continued its examination on ocean carbon sequestration and its use in Canada.

WITNESSES:

Natural Resources Canada:

Amanda Wilson, Director General, Office of Energy Research and Development;

Jason Gadoury, Senior Director, Office of Energy Research and Development;

Saviz Mortazavi, Director, Office of Energy Research and Development.

Environment and Climate Change Canada:

Nicole Coté, Director General, Environmental Protection Operations;

Greg Flato, Director, Climate Research (by videoconference);

David Taillefer, Acting National Manager, Marine Programs.

Amanda Wilson and Nicole Coté each made a statement and, together with Jason Gadoury, Saviz Mortazavi, Greg Flato and David Taillefer, answered questions.

At 10:37 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
