The Standing Committee on Rules, Procedures and the Rights of Parliament met this day at 9:31 a.m., in room B30, Senate of Canada Building, the chair, the Honourable Diane Bellemare, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Ataullahjan, Batters, Bellemare, Boniface, Cordy, Deacon (Ontario), MacDonald, Marwah, Mégie, Ringuette and Woo (11).

Other senators present: The Honourable Senators Bernard, Galvez, Hartling and Massicotte (4).

Participating in the meeting: Erin Virgint and François Delisle, analysts, Library of Parliament.

Pursuant to rule 12-7(2)(a), the committee continued its consideration of possible amendments to the Rules. (Topic: Committee structure and mandates)

WITNESSES:

The Honourable Senator Rosa Galvez, Chair, Standing Senate Committee on Energy, the Environment and Natural Resources;

The Honourable Senator Paul J. Massicotte, former Chair, Standing Senate Committee on Energy, the Environment and Natural Resources;

The Honourable Senator Salma Ataullahjan, Chair, Standing Senate Committee on Human Rights;

The Honourable Senator Wanda Thomas Bernard, Deputy Chair and former Chair, Standing Senate Committee on Human Rights;

The Honourable Senator Nancy J. Hartling, former Deputy Chair, Standing Senate Committee on Human Rights.

The Honourable Senators Galvez and Massicotte each made a statement and answered questions.

At 10:29 a.m., the committee suspended.

At 10:33 a.m., the committee resumed.

The Honourable Senators Ataullahjan, Bernard and Hartling each made a statement and answered questions.

At 11:20 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
