The Standing Committee on Rules, Procedures and the Rights of Parliament met this day at 9:32 a.m., in room B30, Senate of Canada Building, the deputy chair, the Honourable Denise Batters, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Batters, Black, Busson, Cordy, Deacon (Ontario), MacDonald, Marwah, Mégie, Ringuette, Wells and Woo (11).

Other senators present: The Honourable Senator Manning (1).

Participating in the meeting: Erin Virgint and François Delisle, analysts, Library of Parliament.

Pursuant to rule 12-7(2)(a), the committee continued its consideration of possible amendments to the Rules. (Topic: Committee structure and mandates)

WITNESSES:

The Honourable Senator Robert Black, Chair, Standing Senate Committee on Agriculture and Forestry;

The Honourable Diane F. Griffin, Former Senator, Former Chair, Standing Senate Committee on Agriculture and Forestry (by videoconference);

The Honourable Senator Fabian Manning, Chair, Standing Senate Committee on Fisheries and Oceans;

The Honourable Senator Bev Busson, Deputy Chair, Standing Senate Committee on Fisheries and Oceans.

The Honourable Senator Black and the Honourable Diane F. Griffin each made a statement and answered questions.

At 10:25 a.m., the committee suspended.

At 10:30 a.m., the committee resumed.

The Honourable Senators Manning and Busson each made a statement and answered questions.

At 11:28 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
