The Standing Committee on Rules, Procedures and the Rights of Parliament met this day at 9:33 a.m., in room B30, Senate of Canada Building, the deputy chair, the Honourable Denise Batters, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Ataullahjan, Batters, Busson, Cordy, Greene, Kutcher, MacDonald, Mégie, Omidvar, Quinn, Ringuette, Wells, Woo and Yussuff (14).

Other senators present: The Honourable Senators Audette and Black (2).

Participating in the meeting: François Delisle and Erin Virgint, analysts, Library of Parliament.

Pursuant to rule 12-7(2)(a), the committee continued its consideration of possible amendments to the Rules. (Topic: Delayed answers and responses to written questions)

WITNESSES:

House of Commons:

Jeffrey Leblanc, Deputy Clerk, Procedure;

Jean-Philippe Brochu, Clerk Assistant, House Proceedings.

Privy Council Office:

Jean Cintrat, Director of Operations, Parliamentary Affairs.

Jeffrey Leblanc and Jean-Philippe Brochu each made a statement and answered questions.

At 10:05 a.m., the committee suspended.

At 10:07 a.m., the committee resumed.

Jean Cintrat made a statement and answered questions.

At 10:59 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
