The Standing Committee on Rules, Procedures and the Rights of Parliament met this day at 9:31 a.m., in room B30, Senate of Canada Building, the chair, the Honourable Diane Bellemare, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Ataullahjan, Audette, Batters, Bellemare, Busson, Kutcher, MacDonald, McNair, Mégie, Saint-Germain, Wells (Newfoundland and Labrador) and Woo (12).
Other senators present: The Honourable Senator Lankin, P.C. (1).
Participating in the meeting: Laura Carter and François Delisle, analysts, Library of Parliament.
Pursuant to rule 12-7(2)(a), the committee continued its consideration of possible amendments to the Rules. (Topic: Role of non-affiliated senators)

Jeffrey LeBlanc and Jean-Philippe Brochu made a statement together and answered questions.
At 10:11 a.m., the committee suspended.
At 10:12 a.m., the committee resumed.
The committee discussed a draft agenda (future business).
François Delisle presented statistics on statements, questions and speeches by non-affiliated senators.
The Honourable Senator Bellemare moved that the Honourable Senator Audette be chair of the Standing Committee on Rules, Procedures and the Rights of Parliament, effective October 13, 2024.
The question being put on the motion, it was adopted.
At 11:09 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
