The Standing Senate Committee on Social Affairs, Science and Technology met in camera this day at 11:30 a.m., in room B45, Senate of Canada Building, the chair, the Honourable Rosemary Moodie, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Bernard, Boudreau, Brazeau, Burey, Cormier, Mégie, Moodie, Muggli, Osler, Petitclerc, Seidman and Senior (12).
Other senators present: The Honourable Senators Moncion and Youance (2).
Participating in the meeting: Laura Blackmore and Mayra Perez-Leclerc, analysts, Library of Parliament.
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, November 28, 2024, the committee continued its consideration of the subject matter of Bill C-71, An Act to amend the Citizenship Act (2024).
At 11:30 a.m., pursuant to rule 12-16(1)(d), the committee discussed in camera a draft report.
It was agreed that senators’ staff be permitted to remain in the room during the in camera meeting.
It was agreed that the committee allow the audio recording of the in camera meeting today, that one copy be kept with the clerk of the committee for consultation by committee members and/or staff, and that the audio recording be destroyed by the clerk when authorized to do so by the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure, but no later than at the end of this parliamentary session.
It was agreed that the draft report, as amended, be adopted, and that the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure be empowered to approve the final version of the report, in both official languages, taking into consideration this meeting and yesterday’s discussions, and with any necessary editorial, grammatical and translation changes required.
It was agreed that the chair be authorized to table the report in the Senate, in both official languages.
At 11:37 a.m., pursuant to rule 12-16(1)(d), the committee discussed in camera a draft agenda (future business).
At 12:18 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
