The Standing Senate Committee on Social Affairs, Science and Technology met this day at 4:15 p.m., in room B45, Senate of Canada Building, the chair, the Honourable Ratna Omidvar, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Burey, Cordy, Cormier, Dasko, Greenwood, McPhedran, Mégie, Omidvar and Osler (9).

Participating in the meeting: Laura Blackmore and Antoine Dedewanou, analysts, Library of Parliament.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, February 10, 2022, the committee continued its study on issues relating to social affairs, science and technology generally. (Topic: Canada's Temporary and Migrant Labour Force)

Noel Baldwin, Director of Government and Public Affairs.

Mikal Skuterud, Professor, Department of Economics, University of Waterloo (by videoconference);

Mohammad Qadeer, Professor Emeritus, Department of Geography and Planning, Queen's University (by videoconference);

Armine Yalnizyan, Atkinson Fellow on the Future of Workers, Atkinson Foundation.

Mikal Skuterud, Jim Stanford and Mohammad Qadeer each made a statement and answered questions.

At 5:14 p.m., the committee suspended.

At 5:16 p.m., the committee resumed.

Armine Yalnizyan and Noel Baldwin each made a statement and answered questions.

At 6:11 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
