The Standing Senate Committee on Transport and Communications met this day at 9:01 a.m., in room B45, Senate of Canada Building, the chair, the Honourable Leo Housakos, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Cardozo, Clement, Dasko, Downe, Housakos, Miville-Dechêne, Quinn and Simons (8).

Other senators present: The Honourable Senator White (1).

Participating in the meeting: Jed Chong and Khamla Heminthavong, analysts, Library of Parliament.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, February 10, 2022, the committee continued its study on the impacts of climate change on critical infrastructure in the transportation and communications sectors and the consequential impacts on their interdependencies.

WITNESSES:

Government of Prince Edward Island:

The Honourable Ernie Hudson, M.L.A., Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure (by videoconference);

Paul Godfrey, Director of Infrastructure, Policy and Planning, Department of Transportation and Infrastructure (by videoconference).

Halifax Port Authority:

Allan Gray, President and Chief Executive Officer.

As individuals:

Tim Webster, Research Scientist, Applied Geomatics Research Group, Nova Scotia Community College (by videoconference);

Danika van Proosdij, Director, TransCoastal Adaptations Centre for Nature-Based Solutions, Saint Mary’s University.

The Honourable Ernie Hudson and Allan Gray each made a statement and, together with Paul Godfrey, answered questions.

At 9:55 a.m., the committee suspended.

At 10:01 a.m., the committee resumed.

Tim Webster and Danika van Proosdij each made a statement and answered questions.

At 10:59 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
