Pursuant to the order of the Senate of May 5, 2022, the Subcommittee on Veterans Affairs met this day in room B45, Senate of Canada Building, and with videoconference, at 12:07 p.m. ET, the chair, the Honourable David Richards, presiding.

Members of the subcommittee present: The Honourable Senators Boisvenu and Deacon (Ontario) (2).

Members of the subcommittee present by videoconference: The Honourable Senators Anderson, Richards and Yussuff (3).

Participating in the meeting: Chantal Cardinal, Procedural Clerk, Sara Gajic, Legislative Clerk and Natacha Umugwaneza, Administrative Assistant, Committees Directorate; Jean-Rodrigue Paré, Analyst, Library of Parliament.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, February 10, 2022, the subcommittee continued its study of issues relating to Veterans Affairs, including services and benefits provided, commemorative activities, and the continuing implementation of the Veteran’s Well‑being Act.

WITNESSES (by videoconference):

Office of the Veterans' Ombudsman:

Colonel (Retired) Nishika Jardine, Veterans Ombud;

Duane Schippers, Deputy Veterans Ombud.

Duane Schippers and Colonel Nishika Jardine each made a statement and answered questions.

At 12:53 p.m., the subcommittee adjourned to the call of the chair.
