The Standing Senate Committee on Indigenous Peoples met this day at 9 a.m., in room C128, Senate of Canada Building, the chair, the Honourable Michèle Audette, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Audette, Clement, Francis, Greenwood, Karetak-Lindell, McCallum, Prosper and Tannas (8).

Participating in the meeting: Sara Fryer and Allison Lowenger, Analysts, Library of Parliament.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, the committee continued its examination of any matters related to the duty to consult and accommodate Indigenous Peoples, which flows from the honour of the Crown derived from section 35 of the Constitution Act, 1982.

WITNESSES:

Mining Association of Canada:

Tara Shea, Vice President, Regulatory and Indigenous Affairs.

First Nations Land Management Resource Centre:

Andrew Beynon, Director of Land Governance;

Hayden Guilderson, Chair, First Nation Land Governance Registry (by videoconference).

Nunavut Impact Review Board:

Dionne Filiatrault, Executive Director (by videoconference).

Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission:

Colin Moses, Vice-President, Regulatory Affairs Branch and Chief Communications Officer;

Adam Levine, Director, Indigenous Consultation and Engagement Division.

Tara Shea, Hayden Guilderson and Andrew Beynon each made a statement and answered questions.

At 9:58 a.m., the committee suspended.

At 10:02 a.m., the committee resumed.

Dionne Filiatrault and Colin Moses each made a statement and, together with Adam Levine, answered questions.

At 10:59 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
