The Standing Senate Committee on Energy, the Environment and Natural Resources met with videoconference this day at 6:30 p.m. [ET] for the election of the chair and, in camera, for the consideration of a draft agenda (future business).

[Translation]

Catherine Cuerrier, Clerk of the Committee: Honourable senators, as clerk of your committee, it is my duty to preside over the election of the chair. I am ready to receive a motion to that effect.

[English]

Senator Arnot: I move that we elect Senator Joan Kingston as the chair.

Ms. Cuerrier: Are there any other nominations?

[Translation]

Hon. Senator Arnot moved:

That the Honourable Senator Kingston do take the chair of this committee.

Is it your pleasure, honourable senators, to adopt the motion?

Some Hon. Senators: Agreed.

Ms. Cuerrier: I declare the motion carried. I invite the Honourable Senator Kingston to take the chair.

I asked for nominations for the position of chair. Senator Arnot proposed the Honourable Senator Kingston to be the chair. Do you agree with that motion?

Senator McCallum: That’s the only nomination? Okay.

Ms. Cuerrier: That’s the only nomination.

The Chair: Thank you, everyone. I am glad to be here, and I am glad to work with all of you. That is my message for tonight; I wish to collaborate with the committee, all together, as much as possible. We have a lot to do.

Is it agreed that we continue in camera?

Hon. Senators: Agreed.
