The Standing Senate Committee on National Finance met this day at 1 p.m., in room C128, Senate of Canada Building, the deputy chair, the Honourable Éric Forest, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Cardozo, Forest, Galvez, Gignac, Hébert, MacAdam, Robinson and Ross (8).

Other senators present: The Honourable Senator Pupatello (1).

Participating in the meeting: André Léonard and Michaël Lambert-Racine, Analysts, Library of Parliament.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, May 7, 2026, the committee continued its examination of the subject matter of Bill C-30, An Act to implement certain provisions of the spring economic update tabled in Parliament on April 28, 2026.

WITNESSES:

Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives:

David Macdonald, Senior Economist.

Canada's Building Trades Unions:

Sean Strickland, Executive Director.

Canadian Chamber of Commerce:

David R. Pierce, Vice-President, Government Relations.

Canadian Meat Council:

Kyle Larkin, President and Chief Executive Officer.

David Macdonald and Sean Strickland each made a statement and answered questions.

At 1:57 p.m., the committee suspended.

At 2 p.m., the committee resumed.

David R. Pierce and Kyle Larkin each made a statement and answered questions.

At 2:59 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
