The Standing Senate Committee on Fisheries and Oceans met this day at 6:36 p.m., in room W110, 1 Wellington St., the chair, the Honourable Fabian Manning, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Boudreau, Busson, Cuzner, Deacon (Nova Scotia), Dhillon, Gerba, Greenwood, Manning, Poirier, Prosper and Surette (11).

Participating in the meeting: Daniele Lafrance, Analyst, Library of Parliament.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, the committee continued its study of ocean carbon sequestration and its use in Canada.

WITNESSES:

Canadian Ocean Acidification Community of Practice:

Helen Gurney-Smith, Research Scientist, Fisheries and Oceans Canada (by videoconference).

Carbon Removal Canada:

Na'im Merchant, Executive Director (by videoconference).

Carbon to Sea Initiative:

Diane Hoskins, Director, Global Policy.

Helen Gurney-Smith made a statement and answered questions.

At 7:24 p.m., the committee suspended.

At 7:29 p.m., the committee resumed.

Na'im Merchant and Diane Hoskins each made a statement and answered questions.

At 8:29 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
