The Standing Committee on Rules, Procedures and the Rights of Parliament met this day at 9:30 a.m., in room B30, Senate of Canada Building, the chair, the Honourable Peter Harder, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Ataullahjan, Batters, Burey, Busson, Downe, Harder, P.C., Ringuette, Saint-Germain, Surette, Wells (Alberta), White, Youance and Yussuff (13).
Other senators present: The Honourable Senators Arnot, Black, Kingston, LaBoucane-Benson, Martin and Moodie (6).
Participating in the meeting: Erin Virgint and François Delisle, Analysts, Library of Parliament.
Pursuant to rule 12-7(2)(a), the committee continued its consideration of possible amendments to the Rules. (Topic: Senate Public Bills)

The committee discussed a draft agenda (future business).
After debate, it was agreed that, for the meeting of June 16, the two panels of witnesses appearing before the committee be limited to 45 minutes each, and that half an hour be reserved for the discussion of future business.
Pursuant to rule 12-7(2)(a), the committee considered possible amendments to the Rules. (Topic: Technical Amendments to the Rules)
The committee discussed a draft agenda (future business).
After debate, it was agreed that the Chair write to the Clerk of the Senate on behalf of the committee to ask if there are any further technical issues in the Rules of the Senate that she would recommend for the committee’s study.

At 9:38 a.m., the Honorable Senators Arnot, Batters, Moodie and Burey each made a statement and answered questions.
At 10:28 a.m., the committee suspended.
At 10:32 a.m., the committee resumed.
The Honorable Senators Kingston, Martin, LaBoucane-Benson, Black and White each made a statement and answered questions.
At 11:22 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
