Pursuant to the order of the Senate adopted on Tuesday, June 3, 2026, the Standing Senate Committee on National Security, Defence and Veterans Affairs met in camera this day at 11:30 a.m., in room B45, Senate of Canada Building, the deputy chair, the Honourable Mohammad Al Zaibak, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Al Zaibak, Anderson, Boehm, Dasko, McNair, Patterson, Youance and Yussuff (8).
Participating in the meeting: Anne-Marie Therrien-Tremblay and Andrés León, Analysts, Library of Parliament.
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, May 28, 2026, the committee began its consideration of Bill C-11, An Act to amend the National Defence Act and other Acts.
WITNESSES:
Defence Community Support and Resource Centre:
Elizabeth Cyr, Director General, Service Delivery;
Melanie Baron, National Manager, Response and Support Coordination Program;
Christine Nadeau, Team Lead, Outreach Operations, Communications Team.
It was agreed that the committee allow the audio recording and/or transcript of the in camera meeting today, that one copy be kept with the clerk of the committee for consultation by committee members or staff, and that the audio recording and/or transcript be destroyed by the clerk when authorized to do so by the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure, but no later than at the end of this parliamentary session.
It was agreed that support staff from the Defence Community Support and Resource Centre be permitted to remain in the room for the duration of the meeting.
Elizabeth Cyr, Melanie Baron and Christine Nadeau each made a statement and answered questions.
At 12:50 p.m., the committee suspended.
At 12:53 p.m., the committee resumed.
Pursuant to rule 12-16(1)(d), the committee resumed to consider a draft agenda (future business).
At 1:11 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
