The Standing Senate Committee on Social Affairs, Science and Technology met this day at 10:36 a.m., in room B45, Senate of Canada Building, the chair, the Honourable Rosemary Moodie, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Arnold, Boudreau, Burey, Cuzner, Greenwood, Hay, McPhedran, Moodie, Muggli, Osler, Petitclerc and Senior (12).

Participating in the meeting: Laura Blackmore and Mayra Perez-Leclerc, Analysts, Library of Parliament.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, October 2, 2025, the committee continued its study of matters related to the impact of artificial intelligence in Canada.

WITNESSES:

AI Governance and Safety Canada (AIGS Canada):

Wyatt Tessari L'Allié, Founder and Executive Director.

As individuals:

Geoffrey Hinton, Professor, University of Toronto (by videoconference);

David Kristjanson Duvenaud, Associate Professor of Computer Science, University of Toronto;

Inioluwa Deborah Raji, Researcher, University of California, Berkeley (by videoconference).

Geoffrey Hinton made a statement and answered questions.

At 11:33 a.m., the committee suspended.

At 11:39 a.m., the committee resumed.

Wyatt Tessari L'Allié, David Kristjanson Duvenaud and Inioluwa Deborah Raji each made a statement and answered questions.

At 12:32 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
