The Standing Senate Committee on Social Affairs, Science and Technology met this day at 4:16 p.m., in room B45, Senate of Canada Building, the chair, the Honourable Rosemary Moodie, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Arnold, Burey, Cuzner, Greenwood, McPhedran, Moodie, Muggli, Osler, Petitclerc and Senior (10).

Participating in the meeting: Diana Ambrozas and Laura Blackmore, Analysts, Library of Parliament.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, the committee continued its consideration of Bill S-215, An Act respecting National Immigration Month.

WITNESSES:

Soukaina Boutiyeb, Executive Director.

African Federation and Associations of Canada:

Seynabou Amy Ka, Executive Director.

Black Cultural Centre for Nova Scotia:

Russell Grosse, Chief Executive Officer (by videoconference).

Tonie Chaltas, Chief Executive Officer (by videoconference);

Kristen Neagle, Director, Government Relations and Strategic Partnerships.

Canadian Council for Refugees:

Gauri Sreenivasan, Co-Executive Director;

Mustafa Abbas, Youth Network Coordinator.

Soukaina Boutiyeb, Seynabou Amy Ka and Russell Grosse each made a statement and answered questions.

At 5:15 p.m., the committee suspended.

At 5:21 p.m., the committee resumed.

Tonie Chaltas, Gauri Sreenivasan and Mustafa Abbas each made a statement and, together with Kristen Neagle, answered questions.

At 6:04 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
