QUESTION PERIOD — Housing, Infrastructure and Communities

Accessibility

June 4, 2026

Hon. Chantal Petitclerc [ - ]

Senator Moreau, as you will recall, with Bill C-81, the hope was that accessibility would become second nature or that there would be a snowball effect in the federal government’s action, but that is clearly still not the case. When it comes to the rights recognized under Bill C-81, shouldn’t the government take a firm stand and commit to saying that funding comes with an obligation to ensure accessibility?

Hon. Pierre Moreau (Government Representative in the Senate)

Thank you for the question.

The program criteria includes accessibility requirements. The program also includes a catalogue of design measures that specifically provides for the approval of homes that are built in accordance with accessibility requirements. That catalogue is publicly available.
