QUESTION PERIOD — Ministry of Veterans Affairs

Educational Programming

February 15, 2024

The former Minister of Veterans Affairs’ mandate letter states that a primary responsibility is to ensure that the government fulfills its obligation to support our veterans and their families. Part of this must include supporting the education and awareness of the actions of our veterans throughout history. What is your department doing to support such awareness campaigns?

Hon. Ginette Petitpas Taylor, P.C., M.P., Minister of Veterans Affairs and Associate Minister of National Defence [ - ]

The commemoration part of the work that we do at Veterans Affairs Canada is really important to highlight the work that has been done by our Canadian Armed Forces and our veterans, both nationally and internationally. That commemoration work is very useful in order to make sure that we educate our young people. Just this week, for example, I attended many schools, and we did Valentines for Vets — not only were we preparing valentines, but we were also doing a bit of education for our young children. They were just so proud to take part in these types of activities, and they were eager to learn about the sacrifices of our men and women in uniform.
