The Standing Senate Committee on National Finance met at 5:15 p.m. this day, in Room 356-S, the Chairman, the Honourable Senator Tkachuk, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Tkachuk, Cools, Forest, Kelly, Lavoie-Roux, Mercier, Rizzuto and Stratton (8)

In attendance from the Library of Parliament, Research Branch: Guy Beaumier.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

WITNESSES:

Peter Milliken, M.P., Deputy Chairman of the Committee of the Whole.

From the Treasury Board of Canada:

David Miller, Assistant Secretary, Expenditure Management Sector.

Pursuant to its Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, December 11, 1996, the committee began the examination of Bill C-270, An Act to amend the Financial Administration Act (session of Parliament).

Mr. Milliken made opening remarks and, with Mr. Miller answered questions.

At 6:00 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
