MONTREAL, Thursday, May 3, 2001
(15) The Standing Senate Committee on Energy, the Environment, and Natural Resources met at 9:30 a.m. this day in the Huronie A/B Room of the Montreal Marriott Chateau Champlain Hotel, the Chair, the Honourable Nicholas W. Taylor, presiding. Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Adams, Banks, Buchanan, P.C., Christensen, Eyton, Hervieux-Payette, P.C., Kenny, Spivak, and Taylor (9). Other senators present: The Honourable Senators Maheu and Nolin (2). In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament, Lynne Myers, Research Officer. Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate. Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on March 1, 2001, the committee proceeded to examine issues as may arise from time to time relating to energy, the environment and natural resources, including the continuation and completion of the study on Nuclear Reactor Safety. (See Issue No. 1, Thursday, February 22, Tuesday, February 27 and Thursday, March 22, 2001, for full text of the Order of Reference). WITNESSES: From Gaz Métropolitain: Stéphane Bertrand, Vice-President, Communication, Governmental and Public Affairs; André Boulanger, Vice-President, Sales-Marketing; Sophie Brochu, Vice-President, Business Development and Gas Supply. From the Canadian Hydrogen Association: Tapan K. Bose, President. The witnesses made presentations and answered questions. The witnesses from Gaz Métropolitain and the Canadian Hydrogen Association submitted briefs. At 12:10 p.m., it was agreed that the committee adjourn to the call of the Chair. ATTEST:

WITNESSES: As a Panel: From the Coalition québécoise pour le contrôle du tabac: Louis Gauvin, Coordinator. From the Non-Smokers' Rights Association: François Damphousse. From the Alliance pour la lutte au tabagisme (Quebec Division): Mario Champagne, Coordinator. As a Panel: From the Conseil québécois sur le tabac et la santé: Marcel Boulanger, President. Mario Bujold. From the Canadian Cancer Society: Suzanne Lemire, Public Education and Public Issues Coordinator (Quebec Division). The Chair recognized Heidi Rathgen, Co-Chair de la Coalition québécoise pour le contrôle du tabac, for her active work in anti-tobacco measures. The witnesses made presentations and answered questions. The witness from the Coalition québécoise pour le contrôle du tabac submitted a brief.
