The Standing Senate Committee on Energy, the Environment, and Natural Resources met at 9:37 a.m. this day, in Room 257 East Block, the Chair, the Honourable Nicholas W. Taylor, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Adams, Banks, Buchanan, P.C., Christensen, Cochrane, Finnerty, Kelleher, P.C., Kenny, Sibbeston, Spivak and Taylor (11).
Other senators present: The Honourable Senators Johnson, Rivest and Watt (3).
In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament, Lynne Myers, Research Officer and Mary Hurley.
Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on November 27, 2001, the committee proceeded to study Bill C-33 (See Issue No.19, Thursday, November 27, 2001 for full text of the Order of Reference).

The witnesses made a presentation and answered questions.
The Honourable Senator Kenny moved - That no votes or decisions will be taken on Bill C-33, An Act respecting the water resources of Nunavut and the Nunavut Surface Rights Tribunal and to make consequential amendments to other Acts by the committee at this meeting.
After debate, it was adopted.
At 11:48 a.m., the committee suspended.
At 12:40 p.m., the committee resumed.
The Nunavut Tunngavik, Inc., the Government of Nunavut and the Mining Association of Canada submitted a brief.
At 1:30 p.m., It was agreed - That the committee adjourn to the call of the Chair.
