The Standing Senate Committee on National Finance met at 9:30 a.m., this day, in Room 705, Victoria Building, the Chair, the Honourable Senator Lowell Murray, P.C., presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Angus, Banks, Bolduc, Cools, Doody, Ferretti Barth, Finnerty, Murray, P.C., Tunney (9).
In attendance: Mr. Guy Beaumier, Research Officer, Library of Parliament.
Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.
APPEARING:
The Honourable Martin Cauchon, Minister of NationalRevenue and Secretary of State (Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec).

Mr. Denis Lefebvre, Deputy Commissioner, CustomsDirectorate
Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on May 3, 2001, the committee undertook its examination of Bill S-23, An Act to amend the Customs Act and to make related amendments to other Acts.
The Minister made an opening statement and with Mr. Lefebvre answered questions from members of the committee.
It was agreed that the committee meet again with the Officials of the Canada Customs and Revenue Agency on Wednesday, May 9, 2001 at 5:45 p.m..
At 11:20 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair
